Beginner Qi and Martial Loadout — Your First Usable Setup
A practical Scroll of Taiwu 1.0 starter loadout: what to put in each Qi row, when Auto Equip helps, how to avoid empty or mismatched slots, and how to revise the setup after a fight.
Start with a usable loop, not a full loadout
For a first character, the job of the Martial Loadout is simple: give Taiwu one reliable way to apply pressure, one way to move or control range, one internal support choice, and enough defense or utility to recover from mistakes. A loadout full of learned arts is not automatically stronger if its rows, range, or combat role do not work together.
Open Q → Martial Loadout and make one preset your safe default. You can keep the other two presets for experiments later, but do not rebuild all three while you are still learning what a fight is asking for.
- One main weapon or attack route: your repeatable way to win exchanges.
- One Qi Art: the internal support that makes the route sustainable.
- One Footwork or movement answer: how you reach, keep, or leave the right range.
- One Protection or utility answer when the row and learned arts allow it.
- Leave a slot empty rather than filling it with an art that has no role in the plan.
Build the first preset in four passes
First, identify the type of the main art you actually use in fights and give it priority in its matching row. Second, add a Qi Art in the general Qi Arts row if you have one that supports your current route. Third, add a movement art only when you can say what range problem it solves. Finally, use a defensive or utility art only if it improves the same plan rather than adding another unrelated playstyle.
Auto Equip is useful for revealing which learned arts can legally occupy open slots, but it is not a build recommendation. Run it once if your preset is empty, then remove anything that does not help the first four decisions.
- Pass 1 — main route: choose the weapon/attack art you know how to use.
- Pass 2 — internal support: add a Qi Art that supports the route and current resources.
- Pass 3 — range: add Footwork only for a concrete advance, retreat, or positioning need.
- Pass 4 — survival: use Protection or utility when it meaningfully improves defense, recovery, or control.
- Review Auto Equip manually; it fills capacity, not intent.

Read the Qi screen before chasing more slots
The four counters on Q → Qi determine the number of available slots in the Annihilation, Nimble, Protection, and Acumen rows. They are not a scorecard that says every row must be full. Read the current counters first, then choose arts that fit the capacity your character actually has today.
Dantian Qi and True Qi Cap answer a different question: how much internal resource you can use during a fight. If a long fight leaves you unable to use the arts that matter, address cultivation, breakthrough, recovery, or fight length before adding more unrelated active arts.
- Annihilation: offense and penetration pressure.
- Nimble: movement, reaction, and dodge support.
- Protection: defense, resistance, and poise support.
- Acumen: technique precision, cast speed, and Qi efficiency.
- Low Dantian Qi or True Qi Cap is a resource problem, not a reason to equip every available art.
Fix one failure after each fight
Do not replace the entire setup after a loss. Read what actually failed: was the enemy at the wrong range, did you run out of internal resource, did you lack a defensive answer, or was the art simply under-practiced? Change one slot or one training priority, then test that answer in a manageable fight.
This keeps the game teachable. A starter loadout becomes reliable through small, observed revisions rather than by copying a late-game build whose arts, slots, and resource base you do not yet have.
- Cannot reach the enemy: review the movement/range answer first.
- Run out of usable Qi: review Dantian Qi, True Qi Cap, and the number of costly active arts.
- Take too much damage: add or improve the defensive answer before adding more offense.
- Cannot use an art well: check its practice, breakthrough state, requirements, and row fit.
- Change one variable, then retest on a fight you can survive.

FAQ
How many arts should a beginner equip?
Equip the small set that creates a usable loop: one main attack route, internal support, a range answer, and a defensive or utility answer when available. More equipped arts are not automatically better.
Should I fill every Qi row?
No. The Qi counters show capacity, not a requirement to fill every slot. Use only arts that support the same route and leave mismatched or purposeless slots empty.
Is Auto Equip good for a first loadout?
Use it as a first draft if the preset is empty. Then check each assignment for role, range, and Qi-row fit; Auto Equip fills slots but does not understand your intended combat plan.
What should I change after losing a fight?
Identify the single failure first: range, Qi resource, defense, practice, or requirements. Change one relevant slot or training priority and retest, instead of replacing the whole build.
